An introductory workshop on funding opportunities, proposal development, and grant applications for undergraduate students was successfully conducted on 10 June 2026 at the seminar hall of the Turtle Rescue and Conservation Center (TRCC), Jhapa.
The workshop brought together 16 undergraduate students from Environmental Science, Zoology, and Forestry backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of project design and grant-seeking processes. The session was facilitated by Mr. Sabin Adhikari of Wild Care Nepal.
The program commenced with welcome remarks from Mr. Rudramani Subedi, Park Manager of SUMMEF. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about Nepal’s turtle conservation efforts through a presentation by Mr. Tapil Prakash Rai, Lead Keeper of TRCC, who shared insights into the history of turtle conservation in the country as well as ongoing conservation initiatives.

The workshop combined theoretical learning with practical exercises. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of proposal writing, research and conservation project development, and funding opportunities available to early-career conservationists. Through hands-on activities, they explored methods for identifying conservation problems, developing potential solutions, and transforming ideas into fundable project concepts.
A key component of the training was the problem tree exercise, during which participants selected a conservation issue affecting a species of their choice and analyzed its underlying causes and impacts. Building on this exercise, participants learned how to prioritize project ideas and structure them into coherent and compelling proposals.
The workshop was jointly organized byWild Care Nepal andTurtle Rescue and Conservation Center (TRCC) to build the capacity of aspiring conservation practitioners and researchers.
