Celebration of World Turtle Day 2024

One Day Turtle Conservation Awareness Program on the occasion of World Turtle Day 2024 was successfully carried out in Hetauda, Makwanpur district. The event was organized by WILD CARE with the support of turtle enthusiast individuals and several other green organizations.

The event featured three distinct activities – all of which centered on conservation of freshwater turtles. The first activity included face painting followed by a momentous conservation rally. The participants voiced against keeping turtles as pet, offering for trade & other factors affecting the survival of turtle species.

Next, the organizing team conducted a community sensitization program with the support of Makwanpur Gadi Rural Municipality, Ward no. 4. The participants featured officials from local governments, public service officers, community forest officials and other local community members.

Lastly, the team set-up an education stall and engaged in interactive discussion with general public in Hupra Chaur. The sessions were received with great enthusiasm. Regardless of limited resources & support, the program was successful in arousing interest and instilling conservation importance in general public about freshwater turtles and tortoises.

We would like to express our gratitude to our field coordinators Mahima Paudyal, Sugam Guragain, Bibek Poudel and Biswash Koirala for their tireless effort in executing this program. This program wouldn’t have been successful without necessary permits and facilitation from District Administration Office, Makwanpur; Division Forest Office, Makwanpur; Nepal Police and Makwanpur Gadi Rural Muncipality, Ward no. 4.  Lastly, we thank all the participants, collaborating organizations, individuals and well-wishers who joined/supported this program.
